Mini-course on tycoon growth strategies?

Someone suggested that I offer a mini-version of The Tycoon Playbook course for those on a limited budget. I’m not sold on this idea making any sense because if you can’t afford the enrollment fee then you can’t afford to put the course into action either. However, I am willing to mull it over and gauge interest. My initial thinking is to offer a mini (strictly online) version at a nominal price which would be credited against the enrollment fee if a person decided to sign up afterwards.  Free is not an option because there’s no incentive for me and besides people don’t appreciate free things. So if you are interested in a mini version of the tycoon growth for a price tag in the $50 range, sign up below and I will keep you posted.  I never sell or share your information with anyone.

  • My 2 cents worth…there’s not much point in offering anything for people who will never be able to afford the main course let alone a business. Instead, you should offer something for those who can afford it but who are sitting on fence undecided. Make it a sales presentation packed with the benefits to be gained from enrolling. That’s how I’d do it if in your shoes. The full credit against the enrollment price is a good idea.

  • Have you considered udemy as a platform for such a minicourse? If you haven’t take a look at it. The course you are proposing would retail in the $99 range. Don’t sell yourself short. Going after losers who can barely afford $50 is a waste of effort. Go up scale.

    • @Rick,

no need to call them losers. Just because someone cannot afford something, doesn’t make them losers. There are lots of things that I cannot afford, that doesn’t make me a loser.

      Let’s be nice. :0)

      Continued success.

  • Don’t lower the bar Peter.

If I went to Rolls Royce and said, can you lower the price for me, so I can afford one, do you think they would do it? Not a chance.

Keep the bar raised. Those that want to buy a “$50” version are just looking for reading materials and nothing more. To do this, you need the full course.

  • You should consider following the Gazelles.com route. Their courses are aimed at the same market as yours but retail for $1250 on average. You might even be able to have them sell yours? I’d check into it.

Their Rockefeller course is a disappointment. It’s just aimed at those interested in being a more effective executive in a large corporation.

    Don’t cheapen your brand.

  • Peter,

    1. The Tycoon Playbook market value, according to standard information marketing industry prices, could easily sell for $1000 or $2000

    2. $500 is already way cheaper than it should be (when I signed up, I was honestly shocked that it was “only” $500

    3. As you stated, if someone can’t even afford $500, and is also not motivated to somehow earn $500 (a minimum wage job in the US will earn $500 in half a month), they cannot implement the strategies or lack motivation to implement anyway – hardly an ideal customer

    4. Despite the already low price, you also provide seller financing for prospects without $500, making it nearly impossible to not afford for people truly interested

    5. Your target market is a business owner with annual revenue in the $500k – $10m (if I remember correctly). No one in your target market–the people you are trying to sell to anyway–is going to have trouble purchasing your product

Ultimately, you can obviously do what you want Peter. But it doesn’t make sense to create a cheaper version for this product. If anything, if you REALLY want to create a lower end business information product for the people who somehow can’t afford the Tycoon Playbook (even with the financing option), you should probably create a guide on how to build a six or seven figure business. It will be more helpful for them (you have to make your first $100,000 long before you make your first $100 million), and will provide them with the power to purchase your primary product outright in the future, a desired outcome for both of you.

    Just my two cents.

  • Actually, you should probably do something like this:
Product 1: The Entrepreneur Playbook – $99 (How to Make Your First Million)
Product 2: The Tycoon Playbook – $999 (How to Make Your First 100 Million)

  • Thanks to everyone who commented here or via PM. The mini-course idea is DOA and new prices are up.

  • The new pricing makes far more sense from a marketing perspective. Since this is a strategy for successful aggressive entrepreneurs, why bother trying to sell the Playbook to people who can’t afford it? It’s a waste of time.
