Talent Acquisition
What does a firm in need of additional talent do in a tight job market? Here’s how one company grew.
Shortly after completing my degree I went to work for a management consulting firm that specialized in helping technology companies with their financing and marketing challenges. Our firm ended up becoming an equity partner in a client I brought in. The client was an engineering consultancy that was evolving into a designer and manufacturer of electrical instruments.
In my capital raising campaign on its behalf I came across a much larger engineering firm that was on the hunt for both more engineers and products. Being venture capital-backed it had the cash to make sizable acquisitions.
Long story short, we sold the small company to the big one and everything worked out well for all parties. The buyer acquired a team of electrical engineers and a new technology which would ultimately result in a line of advanced power inverters.
This type of acquisition is common in the technology and online sectors. Facebook has conducted a number of acquisitions solely for the purposes of acquiring more talent.
